Stronger, lighter, and more alive

Did you know most people over 40 feel 15–20 years younger than they actually are? Studies show that the gap between our real age and our subjective age—how old we feel—is getting wider. People are feeling younger, longer.

I love that! Because today, as I step into 60, I feel vibrant, full of purpose, and more me than ever before. This is truly the best time of my life. And if the research is right—that how old we feel matters more than the number—then I’m entering 60 with the energy of someone decades younger, ready for whatever comes next.

A celebration of now

This milestone—60—feels less like a finish line and more like the start of something new. That’s why I wanted to mark it in a way that felt symbolic through a carefree, creative editorial photo shoot with my daughter, Kaylin Muzika that captured how I feel—free, youthful, grateful, and fully alive. But I’ll be honest: the road here wasn’t always easy.

The crossroads of age and identity

For years, I tried not to let my age define me. Yet somewhere in my fifties, I reached a crossroads: who I was versus who I thought I would be at this stage in life.

Recently, I overheard one of our designers indicate they were searching for images of “someone in their sixties.” What popped up was exactly what I had always assumed too: people who looked much older. We’ve been conditioned to believe that once we hit our sixties, life slows down. We dress differently, move differently, and—at least in the world’s eyes—become “older people.”

But that does not sit right with me, nor with so many others I know.

Choosing health and vitality

A few years ago, I began feeling the weight of ageing in a very real way—low energy, brain fog, and stubborn weight gain. Despite all I had to live for, I felt held back. When I finally went to a doctor, I was told my experience was “normal” and that I should see a counselor to “be okay with ageing.”

That definitely was not the answer I was looking for.

Instead, I became determined to fight for my health and vibrancy. I discovered Catherine Droessler’s program, Even Better in Our Fifties, and threw myself into it. On April 24, 2023, I began with equal parts intensity and desperation.

The results were life-changing. Within days, I slept better. Within weeks, my energy returned. Within six months, I had lost 52 pounds. Today, nearly two years later, I’ve maintained my health, built strength, and feel better than I have in decades.

Alongside Catherine’s program, Phoebe Owen from The Skin Standard helped me restore my skin naturally—adding to the confidence I now feel as I step into this new decade.

Fueled by purpose and people

As much as this transformation has been about health, it’s equally about purpose and faith. Since founding Iconium Media in 2015, I’ve known my calling is to accelerate others’ missions. That calling has been shaped and strengthened by remarkable people:

  • Mentors like Dr. Brad & Debbi Smith and Dr. Bill & Lynn Hendricks, who encouraged me to pursue my MBA, supported my healing, and helped shape the business plan that became Iconium Media.

  • Partners and clients like Iconium’s first - Susan Heckmann, Keith and Kay Seabourne, and Jesse Koch—who believed in me at the very beginning. In 2018, Karim Kassam, Farid Damji, and Ali Shivji invited me into a vision that inspired exponential growth, especially through 2020. Nathan Neufeld and his team at 10FOLD Group continue to challenge us to new heights. And a special thank you to Strathcona County—Richard MacDonald, Sue Hutton, Mayor Rod Frank and many other great departments—for nearly a decade of partnership.

  • My Team— Greg Ramsden makes growth and impact a vibrant reality, and our entire staff team of phenomenal creators, artists, and storytellers. I’m so blessed to work with you, and there is so much more to come in this next decade! Thank you to all of our current team - Jamie, Joseph, Zac, Phil, Ayushi, Candice, Kaylin, Bernice, Ethan, Nathen, Bretten, Alexa, Aly, Reuben and the many others who have served as previous staff, contractors, advisors and helped build this amazing company.

  • My Family, who remind me daily why I live with such urgency. My husband, Cam, who I love dearly and gives me wings to fly. My children—Luke, Hazelle, Brett, Sarah, Kaylin, Trevor—and my grandchildren, who make the future feel endlessly bright. My parents, who planted the seeds of my entrepreneurial spirit and are always there for me. The new family - Ken & Astrid; Corey & Nathalie, and Ricky - who gave us the gift of the BEST inlaws ever! We love our friendship with you all.

  • My Friends & Neighbors, who stand beside me with laughter, encouragement, and purpose. 35 years of friendship with Cynthia Foster, my wonderful friends and neighbors - Sherry, Bobbi Jo, Tara & Kim, and so many others—you make my life richer.

Looking Ahead

So, today, I say thank you. To my community. To my clients and partners. To my friends. To my family. To every person who has shaped me and given me the chance to live with passion and purpose.

This is just the beginning. Here’s to health, purpose, and joy in the years ahead. Here’s to living not by age, but by vitality.
